How Can Someone Tell That Global Warming Is a Hoax

‘Global warming is a hoax’ is an argument of Donald Trump, the president of the U.S.A., who uploaded tweets doubting the authenticity of global warming several times. Since the technologies developed a lot during a short period, it seems to be quite realistic to believe that some catastrophes such as COVID-19 and global warming are fakeries of the authorities, but we should keep in mind that there exist a variety of scientific evidence supporting that the global warming is in a serious level. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, scientific evidence for warming of the climate system, that is, the element of global warming, is unequivocal. I’d like to argue that global warming is not a hoax and suggest the scientific reasons behind it.

According to NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, global warming is the long-term heating of Earth’s climate system observed since the pre-industrial period, which increases heat-trapping greenhouse gas levels in Earth’s atmosphere, in its definition. Concentrating on ‘long-term heating of Earth’s climate system’, the temperature of the Earth is rising remarkably.

There exists a reliable source backing up this fact. The average temperature of the Earth rose about 1.14 degrees Celsius after the late 19th century according to NASA. This rise in the temperature of the Earth itself is the prime evidence for the authenticity of global warming.

Caused by this increase in temperature, climate change is also observed as a result of global warming. According to National Geographic, we can find evidence of climate change and global warming in the trees. Trees store the information considering the climate where they are rooted. National Geographic says that polar ice sheets also became evidence for it. To tell more about the ice sheets of polar areas, they’re trapping the atmosphere hundreds of thousands of years ago, and it shows that the quantity of greenhouse gases stored since the Industrial Revolution is far more than the number of ones stored for hundreds of thousands years before. This shows that human activities accelerated global warming and proves that global warming is the truth that humans made out.

However, the main reason a rumor that global warming is a hoax spread around the world is because, for several years, global cooling, rather than global warming, was the prime argument of academia. However, I’d like to tell them that we should keep in mind that the argument regarding global cooling was just an imagination of people. Rather, global cooling had less scientific evidence than global warming does these days. Thomas C. Peterson, a scholar and an author, said in his paper that the number of papers and research sources regarding global cooling is far less than the number of ones regarding global warming. This presents that global cooling was not a universal argument, which was just made fun of for the public, taking forms of films. That is, a reasoning which argues that global warming is a hoax because global cooling is the real phenomenon we can observe cannot be established.

With all these supporting reasons, we can easily get to the fact that global warming is not a hoax; it is obvious that the average temperature of the Earth is rising; it is obvious that global warming theory is far more reasonable than global cooling theory. This is the reason why we all in the global world should be of the same mindset toward global warming and try to prevent it as much as we can, restraining human activities that affect forming carbon dioxide and accelerate global warming.
